How do I Join Nightfall?

This is a very easy task.

First of all you need to acquire a program that will allow you to interface with MUD [nightfall.org].

There are various ways in which to do this and it can also depend on your operating system.

The location of the telnet program file on most Windows XP machines is:

C:\windows\system32\telnet.exe

Most clients are based on the program called telnet.

It is a built in windows system program which is accessible by the following steps.

1. Click on your start button.

2. You will see an option labeled 'Run...' when your Start menu appears.

3. Left click his once.

4. In the dialogue box (where you type) simply type telnet. Then click okay

5. Type 'open nightfall.org' then return [enter]

This is a very basic and difficult to use interface and is recommended only if

1. You are an experienced telnet user

2. If you have no other option i.e. It's a works computer and you cannot install another client.

Please now go to section 2 - Logging in for the first time on Nightfall - if you wish to use telnet.

There are other mud clients and these are all based on the telnet principal and work pretty much the same way. The difference is that the user interface (the bit that communicates between the mud and the player (user)) is much easier to use and most have excellent help files on the utilities use. Also there are some useful features contained within these programs but the documentation with the downloads can direct you better there. Some of these are freeware and some are shareware.

Why doesn't it work ?

Sometimes although very infrequently there are connection problems. Due to the game being available worldwide we cannot always prevent this from happening. Also, sometimes the nightfall server may be down due to maintenance work, however this rarely the case as most updates are done without a restart of the server but again is not impossible. The server is very reliable and the server is maintained by a a guy call Krise who I will say is VERY good at what he does.

What is the IP and the Port in Nightfall and what does it mean?

The IP - 85.214.93.201 (a bit like a phone number). But most clients also accept "nightfall.org" as address/IP (Note: If possible, use "nightfall.org" as IP/Host)

The Port - 4242 or 23 (used by some mud clients to specify what part of the server you can gain access to)

If using the IP address you may find you will need to specify the port this can be done like this:

85.214.93.201 23

or better:

nightfall.org 23

What to do when nothing else works?

Well.... you could scream ...... or pout ....or give up.
